It’s one of the best marketing stunts in the history of ecommerce.
Everytime Apple put that page up, a ton of blogs links to the store. Even big sites like Gizmondo and Engadget will do double posts to eventually say “Well, ehm - looks like it wasn’t anything today”.
Think Pageranks and just traffic leads to the Apple Store in general - you can’t buy stuff like that
